Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall post was named after George L. Waterman who was a local boy killed in Dayton during the Civil War. On the 150th anniversary of his death (minus one day) on September 27, 1863, Timothy Brookes describes Waterman’s experiences in the war and ultimately his murder by a Southern sympathizer.
Timothy R. Brookes is an attorney from East Liverpool, Ohio. He graduated from Kent State University and the Ohio State University College of Law. Brookes has given many lectures about the Civil War and various other local topics, and has been published in the Ohio Historical Society’s Timeline magazine and Military Images.
