Join us at Peninsula’s 8th annual Music on the Porches—a village-wide happening which celebrates music in the Valley! Merchants and residents alike welcome musicians to  their porches to “make a joyful noise” and fill the valley with music of all genres.  This year, in addition to the 20+ music acts throughout the Village, The Peninsula Foundation and the Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Ohio Arts Council is offering free workshops throughout the day and an evening ticketed musical event featuring Kristin Andreassen and Rayna Gellert of Uncle Earl fame, with special guest Rachel Baiman of 10 String Symphony!!! Zydeco dance Workshop!  Learn some basic Zydeco dance moves from Akron’ Zydeco Queen- Jen Maurer.  After the class, follow Jen Jown the street to try out your new moves as Mo Mojo rocks the Bronson Green at 2pm!

One of N.E. Ohio’s favorite “pickers”, Paul Kovak will be holding a banjo workshop for all levels, from beginners to the more experienced player.  Paul will demonstrate, instruct and answer questions about this fun and popular instrument.  Bring your banjo or just stop in and listen and learn from one of the area’s best.

Kristin Andreassen
Join Kristin Andreassen for a good old fashioned clogging lesson!  Kristin is known for her percussive dancing that she weaves into her innovative music performances, and she can’t wait to share some of those basic dance steps, that have been passed down through generations,  with you.  So bring your dance shoes and join Kristin for a dance at the G.A.R. Hall.

Rayna Gellert
Rayna Gellert grew up in a musical family, and has spent most of her life immersed in the sounds of rural stringband music, heartfelt gospel songs, and old ballads. After honing her fiddle skills playing at jam sessions and square dances, Rayna fell into a life of traveling and performing. Her fiddle albums are widely celebrated in the old-time music community. Join Rayna for an old time fiddle workshop where she will demonstrate some of her skills, answer questions and talk the basics of old time fiddle.

Rachel Baiman
Using fiddle with vocals…not as easy as you might think!  Join Rachel as she shares techniques and tips for playing the fiddle while singing, from traditional old-time tunes,  to modern pop covers and original songs.  Learn chord and rhythm basics that will help you use your instrumenting a completely new way. Rachel Baiman is a fiddle/banjo player, singer, and songwriter based out of Nashville, TN.  Specializing in Old Time, Bluegrass, Scottish, and Folk music, her interests are diverse and range from the oldest fiddle traditions to the most innovative of collaborations.
