The Black River Boys

The Black River Boys

The Black River Boys are an old time string band, playing songs of the 19th century & Civil War era. Tunes range from patriotic songs of the Union Army, to old minstrel tunes, Irish pub songs, and a sea shanty or two.

They represent a soldier’s band. Music was a huge part of a soldier’s down time. Everyone joined in with the musicians, whether it was by singing, dancing, toe tapping, clapping, or playing along on a makeshift rhythm instrument. So when you come to see them, keep this in mind, and join in on the fun. Don’t stand there like a statue. They welcome ALL participation, and if you have an acoustic instrument, bring it.

The Black River Boys were formed by Civil War reenactors from the 51st O.V.I. and the 1st O.V.C. in the winter of 2008-09. They endeavor to keep these great old tunes alive for future generations, and have a great time doing it!
